Traited Modifiers
Hair Mane Trait
Hair Mane is an uncommon trait.
It appears when the hair at the nape of a Caeli's neck grows to lengths beyond that of the body's coat. Not all Caeli have manes, and those that do often style them lavishly. On the right are some examples of what this trait can look like! As stated before, there's no set rules on how to style these manes and thus they can come in different lengths, styles and textures! |

Ridged Trait
Ridged is a legendary trait.
The ridged hair trait must start between the forehead and base of the ears continuously reaching until the tail, where it can continue for ⅓ of the length of the tail.

Untraited MODIFIERS
There are certain 'traits' that are free-for-all and allowed for any caeli that fits the prerequisites for the particular modifier. For this reason, they're usually referred to as "untraited" or "trait-less" because it can be applied at any time free of charge. Many untraited modifiers have some resemblance to rare or paid traits, and in order to minimize confusion you will need to read this guide.
Untraited Foal-like Mane
The Foal-Like mane is not a trait from Northern Ancestry. Instead, it is a variant of the mane in a completely different gene, a hint of the uncommon long hair mane trait. This mane exists ONLY at the nape of the neck, and reaches at most the middle of the head. A Caeli cannot possess both a foal-like mane and a lion like mane; they are different gene sets that will not appear together.
A full mane will always be fur-like rather than hair-like, and a foal mane will be fuzzy and short and will never be long enough to be styled.
Untraited Lion Mane
A 'lion mane' is a genetic callback to the fur requirements due to the cold climate of the Northern Nest. Almost all Caeli with thicker fur around their neck can trace their ancestry back to some kind of Northern bloodline, whether their family lives in the North or not. An untraited 'lion mane' is generally a thick coat of fur all around the neck, reaching from a Caeli's 'cheeks', the back of their head, and down to their chests. Some untraited manes can reach slightly further on the bottom.
Fur in a mane can consist of straight, fluffy, wavy, or curly hair. It should never be made of feathers or seem in any way unnatural. The fur needs to be uniform across the neck, though minor accessory styling such as beads, braids, feather accessories, flowers, or trinkets woven into the fur are acceptable. |

UNTRAITED Northern Fur Coat
[ONLY FOR Northern Caeli]
The extreme cold climate of Northern Nest has led to unique and helpful adaptation, colloquially referred as The Northern Fur Coat, where thick fur covers most (if not all) of a Caeli's body. This coat is made of two layers as opposed to the normal single layer coat of fur. The above example is one of the maximum volume of fur.
It is only available to those currently living in the North with extended Northern bloodlines.

untraited Webbed fingers
[ONLY FOR Seashore Caeli]
Life in the Seashore Nest has granted it's citizens the most peculiar of adaptation: Webbed hands and Feet! It is available ONLY to those currently living in the Seashore Nest, whose family have resided there for generations.
The webs are not regular skin. They are specialized membranes similar to the pneumatic tissue of wings.
Caeli can consciously manipulate their webbing to expand, fold, or retract. When retracted, the webbing neatly folds inwards so that the caeli can still hold and use small objects. In a resting state, it adopts a pre-determined shape, often forming slight tents when fingers are close together.
This conscious control also extends to the starting point of the membrane on their fingers, allowing the caeli to adjust its position, much like retracting or extending wings. However, despite their adeptness at retracting most of the webbing, there remains a natural limit. Consciously retracting it fully can require effort, much like 'sucking in' one's stomach muscles for as long as possible. Notably, these membranes possess an instinctual response, readily deploying when in water.

untraited desert coat
[ONLY FOR desert Caeli]
The isolated Desert nest has over time evolved a gorgeous shining, iridescent coat due to mate selection. It is a highly sought-after trait from caeli for their potential partners. The hairs are hollow, reflecting the light and looking almost metallic when the sun shines on it. It does not generate its' own light and the shine cannot be seen in the dark.
It is only available to those currently living in the Desert with extended Desert bloodlines.

other untraited MODIFICATIONS - lore related
Scarring
The FIRST rule of scarring is: it MUST have a story from Caeli's past that makes sense to the character overall.
e.g. a furnace worker with burns on their hands or a guard with skin-level nicks from swords
It's not acceptable to add scars onto a character without any reason.
Was the injury due to a fight or an accident? Perhaps old age? Is the accident plausible or is it too dramatic?
Do they remember the incident? Does it affect them in their daily life now that they have it?
Some scars affect one character more than another but no one walks away without feeling the effects.
As this is a roleplaying group, any scarring will be expected to be played with according realism. A character with maimed wings will NOT miraculously fly, nor will a blind caeli ever be able to see.
Without a proper story to go with it, scarring will not be accepted in a Caeli design, so please decide on disabilities, scars, and trauma with absolute responsibility.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
It is acceptable for a Caeli to have scarring on the ears or tail, but the scarring must not be easily mistaken for traits that the Caeli does not have. For example:
It is acceptable for a Caeli to have scarring on the ears or tail, but the scarring must not be easily mistaken for traits that the Caeli does not have. For example:
- Ear scarring must not resemble Split Ears, Docked Ears, or No Ears.
- Tail scarring must not resemble Docked tail.

How scars are approved:
ALL scars MUST have written explanation when applying in design-checker on Discord.
You must include the following information:
Tiers of severity and involvement required to pass approval:
1. Nicks, scrapes, cuts, bites and scratches
2. Gashes, large burns, chunks from ear/tail/fingers missing
3. Missing partial/whole limb/ear/tail etc. (no more than one missing limb)
4. Missing wing/s, whole limbs, blind, deaf, mute
ALL scars MUST have written explanation when applying in design-checker on Discord.
You must include the following information:
- How was the wound obtained?
- How does it effect daily life/mobility? Is it severe or mild? (Must be CONSISTENT with visual size of scars)
- How do they cope with the pain/disability? Does this impact how others see them?
- If severe, what sacrifices did they make to stay alive - who has helped them and how?
Tiers of severity and involvement required to pass approval:
1. Nicks, scrapes, cuts, bites and scratches
- Some sentences of explanation, with focus on how they were obtained and impact on others' opinions.
2. Gashes, large burns, chunks from ear/tail/fingers missing
- Minimum paragraph of explanation, with direct impact on character life and mental wellbeing.
3. Missing partial/whole limb/ear/tail etc. (no more than one missing limb)
- Minimum two paragraphs of ongoing explanation. Writing must make sense throughout the character’s story and impacts their daily living to the point that roleplay and lore is distinguishable from that of a normal Caeli.
4. Missing wing/s, whole limbs, blind, deaf, mute
- Ongoing explanation written throughout the entire character biography. Writing must make sense throughout their story and impacts their daily living to the point that roleplay and lore is entirely different from a normal Caeli.
- If ranked and working MUST have a thoughtful and understanding explanation of how they have overcome these disadvantages in order to gain quality of life. Caeli with major disabilities that act and are read like normal caeli will NOT be accepted.
